If your child's clothing should catch fire, the first priority is to stop him moving as any rapid movement will make the flames worse.

- If your child's clothing should catch fire, the first priority is to stop him moving. Any rapid movement will make the flames worse.
- Stop him running around in a panic because this will fan the flames. Lie him on the floor with the burning side uppermost.
- Wrap him in a heavy woollen coat or blanket to stifle the flames. Never use nylon - it's flammable.
- Roll him on the ground to put out the flames. Douse him with water if you have some, or with another non-flammable liquid.
