If your child develops a “red eye”, examine it first to see if there is a foreign object trapped underneath the lid. If there is, try to rinse the eye with tepid boiled water to see if you can wash the foreign body out. If not, go to your doctor. If there is not foreign object or trauma the cause of the “red eye” could be viral or bacterial infection or an allergic reaction. In case your child's conjunctivitis needs antibiotic treatment, seek medical advice.
